Anchorage Wedding Photographer | "J" Wedding
Now that we're solidly in winter here in Alaska, let's have a little sunshine in our lives with a wedding I did back in July!
It was a hot, beautiful day. With a super fun wedding party, and some of my favorite clients, this wedding was so much fun. And their theme, is to die for. Rustic, neutral, yellows... I need to decorate my house like that.
I've been doing photos for this couple since their son was a newborn and they were in a desperate search for a last minute photographer, and found me. I did little man's photos every 3 months for his first year, so as you can imagine, I got to know his parents as well. And they are SO much fun. Their personalities go together so well. So when they asked me to do their wedding photography, I was thrilled. I got to come hang out with them, and their venue, Gloryview Farm in Wasilla, was amazing. Every detail was thought of, and I'm honored I was able to be a part of their day.
Thank you again, M and A! You guys are the best!
Eagle River Child Photographer | "F" Cousin Session
I'm in love with this session. I was contacted by this client to do a cousin's session while her sister was in town with her two little girls from Texas. Such an awesome idea. As a person who grew up very close to her cousins, I would love to have something like this to look back on as an adult.
How cute are all these kids? And their outfits were so well coordinated, and they were all AMAZINGLY well behaved. One of the moms was a fellow photographer, so I barely had to direct anyone, she knew how to get their attention, helped me with posing, etc, this session was a breeze. I have to admit, I'm always a little nervous shooting in front of other photographers, but I loved this. The first mom is a previous client from a newborn shoot, and little man in blue in these pictures was one of my newborns almost a year ago. What a doll!
Before the session, I was asked if I had a bench that all 5 kids could sit on for the session, and I realized that even though I feel like I have every prop under the sun, I did not have a bench big enough to fit 5 kiddos. So I looked around and realized the perfect bench sits right in my studio. So with the help of my awesome clients, we dragged the bench out to the middle of the park, and we may have gotten a few funny looks, but the photos turned out awesome! So now my studio bench will for sure be a prop I'll be using outside more often.
"F" Cousin Session!
This sweet big cousin asked for this picture with his gorgeous little cousin. I melted at the request!
Let's talk about this picture real quick. This was a request by the big kid cousins right at the end, and they really wanted a jumping picture. However, after many attempts (and a lot of laughing), we realized what we were just not going to be able to get everyone off the ground at the same time. So with the help of a little Photoshop magic, we were able to get the picture that the cousins really wanted. :)
Anchorage Senior Photographer | "M" Senior Session
So, total honesty here, but this session happened about a year ago. But since I've determined I'm just never going to be able to keep up with blogging, I'm just now getting around to blogging some of my favorite shoots throughout the last year. And this one tops the list.
I LOVE senior sessions. I do a lot of child photography, (which I love!) but when I get someone in front of a camera who listens to my posing suggestions, and I don't have to chase them down, it's for sure a fun change for me.
This girl. Can you believe how gorgeous? I don't remember much from high school (did I block it out?) but I can tell you right now, I didn't have half of her confidence and style. I don't think I could have taken a bad picture of her if I tried!
We went up on my favorite mountain for photos just as we were starting to head into winter, so it was a lot colder than it looks, but this girl was a sport. Not a single complaint, and can you guess by looking at her photos whether or not she was cold? I would guess not. I love this time of year because the colors are amazing, and it's a lot easier to get that beautiful golden hour lighting because in Alaska in the summer, that happens right around 11pm or 4am during the middle of the summer, and believe it or not but people don't want to come out for photo sessions at that time of day. I get super excited when fall rolls around because the fall colors here are stunning (but brief), and we can go out for a session at a reasonable hour like 7pm and get this lighting that I love so much.

Anchorage Alaska Maternity Photography | "U" Family Maternity
We're continuing our streak of blogging sessions that happened way too long ago! This session happened in the spring (you can tell because there's still melting snow all over the ground), and the colors were perfect. It was juuuust starting to warm up, although in Anchorage, Alaska, and on top of a mountain, that doesn't mean much.
As a photographer in Alaska, I (understandably) get a lot of requests for mountain backgrounds. And if we're going for dramatic backgrounds, this one is hard to beat. I love the way the flowers in momma to be's dress warmed up an otherwise pretty cold looking background, and I love how excited these two were to greet their new little man. I got to meet little man just a little while later when we did his newborn photos, and he was a doll.

I looooove this session. The photos all turned out beautiful. The lighting was perfect, the location was perfect, but most of all my beautiful pregnant momma was absolutely glowing and beautiful.
Confession for this session: I was sick. For whatever reason, I always expect to not get sick in the summer and feel like I'm in the clear when it starts getting warm out, so when I do get sick, I'm just slightly offended that I didn't even catch the illness from my kiddos going to school, I managed to get sick all on my own. Does anyone else do this? We had already had to reschedule once for reasons out of our control, and I knew momma was thinking her little one was coming soon, so there was NO WAY I was letting my cold get in the way. So, armed with sore throat lozenges and hand sanitizer, off we went for this gorgeous session. All went well, although I tend to shoot pretty far away from my subjects, so yelling out directions was a little bit more of a challenge than usual. :)
I love this family. I've done a family shoot for them previously, back when I was building my portfolio, and they are all so sweet, and have I mentioned, GOOD LOOKING? Momma rocked this gorgeous blue dress from Sew Trendy Accessories, which I still have for any other mommas to be who want an amazing maternity dress to rock for a session. ;)

The way this sweet girl is looking at her momma just melts my heart. <3
ANNOUNCING! Name change!
If you follow my page at all, you'll probably notice that something has changed. I've changed my name from Oh So Sweet Photography to Karen Travers Photography.
As I'm starting to get into different areas of photography, I started to feel a little limited by my previous name.
I'm pretty excited about this name change, I've been wanting to do it for a while, but please hang in there while I get things changed around. You can still contact me in all the same ways, through the website, through my Facebook page, and phone number is still the same. The only contact information that is going to change is my direct email address. This will now be:
karen@karentraversphotography.com
You'll still be able to reach me at the old email address while I get things changed around. :) Thanks for sticking with me through some exciting changes!
