I’m throwing it back a little bit to some sessions that I did this summer and fall, because I miss the WARMTH! It’s been so cold and snowy, so seeing the colors from this session makes me feel like winter will most likely eventually end.
This fall was complete craziness with senior sessions, and we actually had a pretty long fall this year. I’ve definitely seen years where fall only lasts a week, and this year it seemed to last for a month before it snowed and fall was over. Thank goodness for a long fall!
This session was SO much fun. I had an adventurous senior, and he and his mom took me to a part of Kincaid Park I had never been to before, and it was beautiful. The trees were amazing, and we saw a moose and calf while we were out there. A few of my favorite portraits ever came from this session!

You guys. It's been so cooooooold. I'm talking so cold that the other day I walked out my front door and thought Oh! It feels warmer today! It was 6 degrees. SIX. DEGREES. So just the fact that I thought that was warm tells you how its been for the last couple weeks. But I'm really hoping this is a precursor to what our summer looks like, because although its been way too cold, it's been nonstop clear and sunny. As I'm typing this, it's 2 degrees outside. Hurry up (sunny) Alaskan summer!
I've been dreaming about warmth so I thought I would post a session that I did in the fall with fall colors, and it was clearly warm enough that we were all comfortable in long sleeves and no coat.
I loved this session. Mom kept telling me that my girl here was not super into having her picture taken, but by the end of this session, we were laughing and having so much fun that it wasn't even work anymore. And look how gorgeous she is. Effortlessly, might I add. Because I do a lot of child portraits, every time I get someone in front of my camera that will follow directions and laugh with me, it's a good day.

You guys, I love senior sessions. All my seniors are good looking, relaxed kids that are NOT AT ALL awkward. Seriously, was I the only one?
I'm a firm believer that you can find beauty in the simplest places. So when we decided to do this senior session at one of my most loved spots, I realized that as much as I love this place, we needed some fresh new spots and backgrounds. We managed to find it in this simple tall field of weeds.
So let's talk about this first picture. This was taken in one of those spots that if you looked at it, it didn't look like much, but when you put this gorgeous girl into it, it came to life. I pulled this photo up on my computer to edit it, and my husband, who never gives me much more than a "Good job!", was looking over my shoulder, gasped and said "Whoa, thats a really good picture". So I knew I had a special one. After posting it on my instagram and Facebook pages, this photo was featured as one of The Snap Society's Daily Faves, and let me tell you, I've been trying to get on there since I found that hashtag. So exciting!

So, total honesty here, but this session happened about a year ago. But since I've determined I'm just never going to be able to keep up with blogging, I'm just now getting around to blogging some of my favorite shoots throughout the last year. And this one tops the list.
I LOVE senior sessions. I do a lot of child photography, (which I love!) but when I get someone in front of a camera who listens to my posing suggestions, and I don't have to chase them down, it's for sure a fun change for me.
This girl. Can you believe how gorgeous? I don't remember much from high school (did I block it out?) but I can tell you right now, I didn't have half of her confidence and style. I don't think I could have taken a bad picture of her if I tried!
We went up on my favorite mountain for photos just as we were starting to head into winter, so it was a lot colder than it looks, but this girl was a sport. Not a single complaint, and can you guess by looking at her photos whether or not she was cold? I would guess not. I love this time of year because the colors are amazing, and it's a lot easier to get that beautiful golden hour lighting because in Alaska in the summer, that happens right around 11pm or 4am during the middle of the summer, and believe it or not but people don't want to come out for photo sessions at that time of day. I get super excited when fall rolls around because the fall colors here are stunning (but brief), and we can go out for a session at a reasonable hour like 7pm and get this lighting that I love so much.
